Farte city bike or Farte Bysykkel is a service offered by Vestfold and Telemark County Council, and delivered and operated by ShareBike AS. Information about how the service works can be found at farte.no/bysykkel. When renting a Farte bysykkel, you enter into an agreement with Vestfold and Telemark County Council (hereafter referred to as VTFK).
The terms in brief are:
- You must be 16 years or older to use Farte bysykkel.
- You are responsible for the bike from the time you activate the rental until you end the rental in in one of the parking zones for Farte bysykkel.
- We recommend the use of bicycle helmet.
- Be considerate and follow traffic rules!
1. Subscribing to the service
1.1 You must register a valid payment card and authenticate your mobile number in the Farte bysykkel-app to rent a city e-bike.
1.2 With each rental, a small deposit is deducted, which is refunded when the bike is returned. The size of the deposit appears in the price overview here.
1.3 You must be 16 years or older to use Farte bysykkel.
1.4 Your user account is personal and cannot be used by others. If others use your subscription, you are responsible.

1.6 You do not have a right of withdrawal and agree that this agreement is fulfilled by both parties so that the rules on the right of withdrawal for remote sales of financial services do not apply. For more information, see the Duty Act to provide information and right of withdrawal for remote sales and sales outside fixed business premises (Rights of Withdrawal Act) (implementation of Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights) (chapter 1, §2).
1.7 In case of misuse of the service, VTFK can block your access to the city e-bike or terminate your customer relationship temporarily or permanently.
1.8 It is not permitted to resell the service.
2.1 To return a bike, you must return it to one of the Farte bysykkel’s parking zones. To end the rental, both the bicycle and the mobile phone with an active rental must be positioned within the parking zone. End the rent by using the app and wait for the receipt before you leave the bike.
2.2 It is not permitted to have more than one person on the e-bike at a time.
2.3 The bicycle basket can be loaded a maximum of 10 kg
2.4 If the e-bike is used as a work tool in connection with paid work, such as courier services and product deliveries, this is solely the responsibility of the renter and VTFK disclaims any direct or indirect liability as a result of such use.
2.5 If you leave the bicycle during the rental period, e.g. if you're going to the store or visiting a tourist attraction, make sure it's securely locked through the app. Remember that you continue to pay rent for the bicycle even when it is temporarily locked. The rental can only be ended within one of Farte bysykkel's parking zones.
3 Your responsibility
3. 1You are personally responsible for the city bike from the time you activate the rental until you end the rental within one of Farte Bysykkel's parking zones and have received a receipt for the ride. For that reason, you should not lend the city e-bike or your user account to others. If you want insurance, the individual user must arrange this themselves.
3.2 You are responsible for complying with traffic rules and not creating dangerous and difficult situations for other road users. and assessing whether the conditions are secure for cycling. It is not permitted to use Farte Bysykkel while under the influence of drugs. You are personally responsible if you cause yourself or others injury when using the city bike. We recommend that you wear a bicycle helmet!
3.3 You can become liable for direct and indirect damages e.g. if you cause damage to the bike, other assets or people, according to Norwegian law. In the event of damage to property or assets, contact your own insurance company. VTFK is not directly or indirectly responsible for damage caused by the use of the city e-bike.
3.4 All bicycles are frequently controlled and maintained. However, it may still be possible to find a defective bike in a parking zone. You are personally responsible to check if the bike is in proper condition and that the brakes work before you use the bike.
3.5 You must immediately notify Farte customer service via the app or phone if you discover major damage or faults on the bike. If you end the rental of a damaged bike inside of a parking zone within 1 minute of starting the rental, you will be refunded the rent automatically.
3.6 You are responsible for having enough battery and enough mobile data available on your mobile phone to be able to operate the app during the rental period. If you lose or have your mobile phone stolen while the bike is in use, report this to our customer service center.
3.7 VTFK can end the rental period at any time, if we have reason to assume that you no longer wish to rent despite the rental not being terminated correctly, or if we have reasonable grounds to believe that you are not taking sufficient care on the bike, or that you violate the user conditions.
3.8 If the rental is not ended properly within a parking zone, and Farte has to collect the bicycle, the user will be charged a collection fee. The amount of the collection fee is shown in the price overview here.
4 Lost or damaged bicycle
4.1 If you cause damage or injury, e.g. causes an accident or the loss of a bicycle, you are obliged to contact Farte bysykkel's customer center as soon as possible.
4.2 If you act irresponsibly and lose or damage the bicycle, you may be liable. Guardians are responsible for any lliability caused by persons under the age of 18 years according to the rules in the Compensation for Damages Act.
4.3 If the bicycle is left unlocked when you leave it, you are responsible for the full value of the bike in case of theft. You must immediately report the incident to Farte Bysykkel's customer center via app or telephone.
4.4 If the bicycle is vandalized, the matter will be reported to the police.
4.5 You are obliged to cooperate with VTFK on completing any police report when this is required. Contact our customer center on tel. 33 74 00 73 for help.
